Kagyu
The Kagyu ("the lineage of the oral
instructions")
lineage is traced back to the Indian teachers Tilopa and Naropa whose
teachings were taken to Tibet by Marpa in the 11th century. These
teachings were passed from Marpa to Milarepa (one of Tibet's most
famous yogis) and from him to Gampopa who passed those teachings to the
First Karmapa, Dusum Khyenpa. The teachings have since been maintained
by the successive reincarnations of the Karmapa - the head of the Kagyu
lineage.
His Holiness the Seventeenth
Gyalwa Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje is the current head of the Kagyu
lineage. His Holiness is based in Dharamsala, India. For further

The
site used to publish a tri-annual online magazine available in Acrobat
format. Sadly there have been no new issues since 2003 but the 14
issues still available for download are a wonderful resource for
learning more about the Kagyu lineage.
